U.S. First Ladies Come Together in Attendance at Late Rosalynn Carter’s Memorial Service

The Carter family prepared an invitation-only memorial service for the late Rosalynn Carter on November 27, meant for family members and several influential figures. The memorial service celebrated Rosalynn through the reading of some of her favorite scripture passages, as well as her favorite praise songs.

Among those invited include current US President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. They traveled to Georgia via Air Force One and had special passengers with them. They traveled alongside former First Lady Michelle Obama, President Bill Clinton, and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

It was later revealed that every living US First Lady attended the memorial service to pay respects. Joining Biden, Clinton, and Obama were Melania Trump and Laura Bush, who arrived separately.

Former First Lady Carter passed away on November 19 at the age of 96. She died peacefully with her family by her side at her home in Georgia.

Throughout her time in public service, the First Lady was a passionate mental health advocate. She was a humanitarian, working for women’s rights, among many others.

Her devoted husband, former President Jimmy Carter, remembered his beloved wife fondly. In a statement shared by the Carter Center, he said:

“As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

When Mrs. Carter passed, some of her fellow First Ladies made sure to pay tribute. Hillary Clinton shared a photo of them together, saying, “I’m grateful for more than 40 years of her friendship and thinking today of President Carter, her family, and all the many people who loved her.”

Likewise, Michelle Obama also pegged a touching letter celebrating Carter, her work, and their friendship. “Her life is a reminder that no matter who we are, our legacies are best measured not in awards or accolades, but in the lives we touch,” a part of her tribute read.

Millions will remember Rosalynn Carter as an inspiring woman, an advocate, and a philanthropist. To her family, she’ll always remain a fiercely loyal wife, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother.
