Modern Family star Sofia Vergara recently celebrated her 51st birthday, and while her fans were delighted for her and the fun she had with her closest friends, they couldn’t help but notice the absence of her husband Joe Manganiello from the photos. Their suspicions grew when Vergara captioned one of the posts, “When life gives u lemons u come to Italy to squeeze them.”
Joe did wish his wife a happy birthday with a blurred photo of the couple and the caption “¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!,” which many considered ‘cold.’
Rumors circulated that their relationship wasn’t in the best shape, and sadly, these were confirmed when the couple announced their separation after nearly eight years.
Sofia and Joe got married in a lavish ceremony at Palm Beach in November 2015, with a guest list of 400 people, including Vergara’s Modern Family co-stars and Manganiello’s co-stars from True Blood, as well as other A-list stars.
The couple first met at a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in 2014 while she was engaged to businessman Nick Loeb. They got together just a few weeks after she broke up with Nick.
In a 2020 interview, Joe mentioned, “I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me. And we’re both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves.”
Unfortunately, the couple shared the news of their decision to divorce in a statement to PageSix, stating, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce.” They requested privacy as they navigate this new phase of their lives.
Sources close to the couple revealed, “Sofía and Joe have been growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future.” Another source added, “At the start of Sofia’s big birthday trip, those close to her were explaining away Joe’s absence with the excuse that he was busy filming back on the East Coast; that excuse barely held up due to the writers strike, but once the actor’s strike took effect, he could have been on the first flight… and he quite clearly is not. So now no one out there with her is even attempting to pretend that it’s not over. It’s over. It’s done.”
